National Yang-Ming University Server Domain Name Application and Management
Approved by the 2003 Academic Year 3rd General Administrative Meeting

  1. Domain Name Application:

Requirements: All departments in the university with the following needs are eligible to apply to the Information and Communications Center.
(1) A server for providing network service. Applicant must obtain the permission of department supervisor;

    • For teachers and researchers research applying for related use, apply under the research project name.
    • Domain Name Regulation:
    • Apply directly to the Information and Communications Center for domain name. Please state the applicants or departments purpose and nature of use. If review by the center determines that a domain name has not been used, it may be registered on the Yang-Ming University domain name server;
    • Unused domain names will be used on a first-come first-serve basis;
    • Avoid using controversial, indecent or suggestive domain names. The Information and Communications Center reserves the right to advise alteration or terminate the use of such domain names;
    • If two or more departments apply for the same domain name, the domain name will be given according to organizational structure, from higher to lower level. In other words, Level 1 units such as university, college and centers have priority over Level 2 units such as department, major, divisions and school. Individual labs or research projects rank the lowest;
    • Those applying under research projects should state the purpose and period of domain name use. If the domain name reaches expiration, remain unused or is inappropriately used, the Information and Communications Center reserves the right to withdraw usage rights;
    • Individuals may contest the decisions of the Information and Communications Center by submitting an appeal to the Computer Committee. The center will abide by the decision of the committee;
    • In case of any changes, the person responsible for the systems connection should submit an application for change. If there is no such person, the department supervisor will assume the responsibility.
    • These regulations are implemented following approval by the administrative meeting and university President and likewise any amendment.
